80% Glycerol
Description
The stock solution of Glycerol that we keep on hand is 80% (v/v) Glycerol. This is used when making a number of yeast media recipes including, YPG liquid media, YPG plates, and is used in freezing down yeast and bacterial cultures.
Location:Shelf L
Directions
You will need a labeled
beaker that will fit your final volume of media and a graduated cylinder
Place a stirbar into the beaker and add about 50mL (500mL final volume) or 100mL (1L final volume)
Milli-Q water
Turn on the stir bar and the hot plate (on low, the water should be warm, not hot or boiling)
Add the appropriate volume of Glycerol. Glycerol is incredibly viscous so be patient when pouring it out
When all of the glycerol is added, add milliQ water to the appropriate volume
Allow it to stir until incorporated. If it is not, you will see a division between water and glycerol in the beaker
