Using the pH Meter

Overview

The pH meter is used when you need to measure the pH of something or make something of a certain pH. It is very important you know what you're doing before you've used it - there has been trouble with carelessness in the past! The instructions are hung on the wall behind the pH meter - please use them.

Procedure

Before Use

  1. Turn machine on.
  2. Remove the little nubbin from the vent hole near the top of the electrode.
  3. Rinse the electrode with dH2O.
  4. Calibrate the pH meter (follow the instructions on the wall). Rinse and dab with a kimwipe between standard solutions so as to not mix them.

After use

  1. Rinse with dH2O, dab with kimwipe.
  2. Place rubber nubbin back into the vent hole.
  3. Check the level of the storage buffer. If it is below the marked line, add more (or ask the lab tech).
  4. Turn machine off.

Notes

Make sure the bulb of the electrode is not broken before use. It is important that the vent hole is plugged with the nubbin when not in use, and the storage buffer is at the appropriate level, otherwise it will dry out and will be work!!!!
