Hazardous Waste Pick Up

UNM risk safety services has an outside vendor that pick up hazardous waste about once a week on Fridays. If you need any waste picked up, follow the steps below in order to make sure things are done properly.

In general, the only waste we create that is hazardous is Ethidium Bromide. When the liquid waste is full, we will organize a pick up for the liquid and solid waste containers.

  • Be sure that all containers are labeled properly. Please see the link to the blank label template below and the link to the copy filled out for EtBr waste. Each container must say HAZARDOUS WASTE. This can be hand written.

  • E-mail the HMDR and any other info to SRS at chemsafety@srs.unm.edu. They will let you know what day your pick up will take place.
  • BE SURE THAT YOUR CONTAINERS TO BE PICKED UP ARE IN THE CORRECT PLACE THE NIGHT BEFORE THE PICK UP! Put a note on them so other lab member know not to put them away.
