Whenever making media, all glassware, stir bars, and lab scoops must be promptly cleaned. If you have not cleaned up your mess, you have not completed the protocol.
Notes and Warning:
DO NOT allow solidified media to go down the drain, this can clog the drains in the lab. Use your hand to filter out any solid media when cleaning up glassware.
Make sure that all yeast or bacteria is killed before dumping cultures down the drain.
Directions
Remove all tape and labels from all glassware
Rinse the items with tap water
Clean the dishes using dish soap and a brush (hanging by the main sink and under it)
Rinse the dishes with tap water at least 3 times, ensure no soap is left
Rinse the dishes with di water 3 times
Allow the dishes to dry
Do not hang anything greater than 500mL (beaker, bottle of flask) over the main sink
2L or larger flasks should be set upside down in the basket near the main sink to dry
Stir bars, tube caps, and scoops should be placed in the basket
Tube should be placed upside down in a tube rack
Please ensure that drying glassware is not in danger of falling and breaking
When dry, autoclave the dishes
For glassware: Place foil over beakers, flasks and graduated cylinders and caps over bottles and add autoclave tape
For stir bars and lab scoops, place them in autoclave pouches, seal and add autoclave tape
After autoclaving and dished have cooled, put them back in their place
