Instructions:

When adding a new protocol, please make sure you link to all of the appropriate reagents and equipment needed. This includes autoclaves and pH meters and anything else you could possibly link from another page. In order to use this template to make a new page, click “Edit this page” on the right and copy everything below this into the new wiki page in order to conserve formatting.

EXAMPLE PROTOCOL: http://getyourscienceon.wikia.com/wiki/Colony_PCR This has some outdated links as it is an older example but it illustrates the format you should use. It also does not explicitly list part numbers since it has manufacturer links, but all of our protocols from here on out should always list part numbers explicitly at the end, as manufacturer links can end up getting moved or otherwise disappear.

Overview

Enter description of the media, please link any protocols that it is used in.

In this section you put why we do this protocol and how it works very generally,as well as what the protocol(s) immediately preceding this and immediately following this are (with wiki links), if applicable.

Materials

Here you cleanly list all of the reagents and equipment in our lab or elsewhere involved in performing this protocol, with links to our wiki reagent or equipment pages if necessary (make as needed the first time you enter a protocol- a protocol is not complete without completed links to all reagents and equipment). Please include this information in a table

Procedure

This is the protocol proper; the list of step by step instructions. re-include the links to referenced equipment and reagents in-line here as they come up. If there are more than one relatively distinct sections you may break up the protocol into subsections as appropriate e.g. YEAST LYSIS and PCR. Anything which can delay the whole protocol e.g. turning on a heat block, signing up for a machine, should be listed at the top and bolded / emphasized.

Notes

Additional important or sometimes important information that is not part of the flow of steps in the protocol.

Part Numbers

list the full manufacturer name and manufacturer part number for all reagents, and then for all equipment. If these already have wiki pages you should be able to get the numbers there. PART NUMBERS will always have two sections, first Reagents and then Equipment. Please place these items in 2 tables.
