====== Refilling Ethanol Bottles ====== --- //[[rylajosephine@gmail.com|Ryla Cantergiani]] 2020/04/28 01:21// ===== Overview ===== ---- We use 70% and 95% stocks of [[200_proof_ethanol|200-proof ethanol]] to sterilize our bench spaces and several pieces of equipment in lab. Squeeze bottles of 70% and 95% are on every bench, and they are refilled as part of Friday Clean-Up tasks (or when needed). ===== Materials===== ---- ^ Materials ^ | 200 proof ethanol | | squeeze bottles (500 mL) | | milliQ water | | graduated cylinder | =====Procedure===== ---- ==70% Ethanol== - Collect the ethanol bottles from around the lab. Use the remaining ethanol to refill any bottles possible. Do not mix 70% and 95%. Use remaining ethanol for clean off the benches or in a protocol :) (or just dump it down the sink) - Fill a graduated cylinder with 350 mL of 200 proof ethanol. Do this in the fume hood. Add to squirt bottle. - Fill the squeeze bottle up to the line with milliQ water (about 150 mL). - Careful shake to mix. ==95% Ethanol== - Collect the ethanol bottles from around the lab.
